English Brass Fireplace Footman C'1800
An English solid brass fire place Footman with cabriole front legs. Iron underframe with pierced brass straps front to back and a pierced brass frieze. 17 inches wide, 12 inches high and 12-1/2 inches deep. Very sturdy. The footman was placed in front of the open fireplace. Vessels were then placed on top and the footman was moved closer and farther from the flame to control the warmth of the vessel's contents. What looks white on top of the footman is actually the same brass as the rest of the piece but color is distorted due to reflection.
