SOLD. SOLD. An English Jackfield type hot milk jug with attached hinged pewter lid in stylized seashell form. Applied scrolled thumb tab. Jug has tapering cylindrical form. Lavish use of gold enamel foliage. Lots of lavender and turquoise berries included with about 3 gone missing from either side of the jug. Gold beaded ring around upper jug and 2 lower gold rings complete the decoration except for a gold stripe on the handle. Gold enamel is about 98% intact overall. There is a little gilt debris near the bottom on the less decorated black side. Mirror black ware of this type is referred to as "Jackfield" by collectors, however much 19th black pottery was made in Staffordshire. 7-3/4 inches tall. C. 1860. Condition very good. Unmarked except for production number.
