SOLD. SOLD. Hand Colored Print "Costume of Domiciliated Indians of No. Amer."

$290.00

Sold. Sold. A hand colored engraving of George Heriot's "Costume of Domiciliated Indians of  North America". Published in 1810 by prestigious Sherwood, Neely & Jones, London. Excerpt from Heriot's Travels Through the Canadas, first published in 1807. This print, having been folded, might possibly have first appeared as part of an 1810 edition of that same book. Line engraving and etching techniques were used to make the copper plate that produced this print. Colors were then filled in by an artist. Mat is 1st half of 20th C. Frame and backing somewhat later. Very attractively presented. Image size approx. 8in. x 10in. Frame size 16in. x 20in. Very good condition. Very nice colors. And folds are probably the result of being in a folio or book.
