A striking terracotta figure of a Honduran woman working over a metate'. The metate' and a receiving bowl are supported by forked tree branches which have been sunk into the ground, Remarkable detail to hair fashion and the woman's clothing and to the method used to produce food. Written in ink on underside of base: "7-1919, on mule trail in Honduras C. Am between San Judneir and Tegucigalpa." Head of woman has been off but is nicely reattached. Condition very good overall as shown in images. Overall height 7-3/8 in.
