A Japanese moriage decorated ewer, the moriage technique depicting a thorny berry vine. Also features realistically hand painted Japanese iris on a green ground. An example of this ewer is shown in Joan van Patten's fifth series as being marked "Nippon". This piece is not marked as is true of a large percentage of pieces in her moriage section. We attribute this ewer as being from the Nippon period, 1891-1921. Overall condition quite good, although there is a hairline at the spout as shown and one small chip to the decoration at the base. Height is 8 inches.
