A silver plate humidor box mounted with a dancing couple in 18th C. costume. By Meriden Britannia Co., Meriden Connecticutt, C. 1885. Sides of box decorated with Japonisme florals and geometrics in Aesthetic Movement style. Box raised on 4 bun feet. Gracefully posed dancers modeled with intricate detail. Silver plate on exterior in near new condition. Interior of box has silver loss on bottom. Partition defining compartment for sponge is perforated for circulation of moisture. Partition is slightly bent. Exterior bottom shows some scratches. See mark. Overall condition very good. No monogram. Dimensions 6 inches wide, 3-1/2in. deep, 6-1/4in. high overall maximum. Width of storage compartment is about 4-3/4in. Meriden B. Co., began business in 1852 and joined International Silver Co., in 1898. Their mark continued to be used into the 1930's. Truly one of America's finest.
