Sold. Sold. A Crown Derby soft paste porcelain cup and saucer from the Duesbury period. Hand painted mark on the bottom in the puce color used 1782-1800. The factory at that time was on Nottingham Rd. in Derbyshire. King George III had awarded Wm. Duesbury the privilege of using a crown in his name and mark which inspired the famous "Crown and "D" " seen on this example. Decoration in the Japanese Imari traditions. All hand painted and gilded. Width of saucer is 6-1/4 in., height 1 in. Overall height of cup and saucer is 2-3/4 in. Excellent condition. Sticker on bottom from a Christie's estate auction in 1910. In 1890, the ongoing Derby factory was awarded the Royal Warrant by Queen Victoria creating the Royal Crown Derby Co.
