Sold. Sold. A Scottish stoneware jar made for food storage, having its original cork stopper. Dark brown glaze to top with with lighter brownish glaze to lower section. Decorative incised design near point of color change. Applied mouth and lip. Beveled bottom edge to protect against chipping. Stoneware, made from clay, is fired at very high temperature and becomes fused and water tight like glass. Vessels of this type were in general use before refrigeration. One gallon capacity. 10-1/2 inches tall, 6-1/2 inch diameter. Very good condition. C. 1910.
